NRA Home Firearm Safety Course

A non-shooting course dedicated exclusively to storing and caring for a firearm in the home. There is special emphasis on children and learning gun safety. The main cause of firearm related accidents in the home can be traced to improper handling or lack of education with firearms. This course of instruction, while not designed to teach the student marksmanship or accuracy, will teach the student what to do should they encounter an unattended firearm.

The DES Training team of NRA Certified Firearms Instructors will teach the NRA Home Firearm Safety course. The 4-hour course deals with the basic knowledge, skills, and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of guns in the home.

Students will receiver the NRA’s Home Firearm Safety handbook, pamphlets on safety and terminology, and lessons on the rules of safe gun handling, identifying and unloading various firearms, ammunition, cleaning, and storage, and will get hands-on experience with the most common types of handguns, rifles, air guns and shotguns.
